Mission

Founded in Fall 2005 and established as a 501(3)c nonprofit organization in the Summer 2006, NEXMAP is dedicated to the production and appreciation of contemporary, experimental art. NEXMAP serves as a vehicle and forum of exchange for local and international artists working in diverse media - contemporary music, music theatre, dance, visual arts, and multi-media. By pairing concerts, festivals, special events and performances with related education and outreach programs, NEXMAP's provides opportunities in intimate settings where artists and audiences can explore the new artistic landscape shaped by the advent of new technologies.

Goals
To support and celebrate the artistic and cultural life of the Bay Area by producing performances and series of concerts and programs that features artists from a specific international center in conjunction with Bay Area artists and performing companies.
To support and promote the artistic aspirations of performers in a variety of disciplines as they explore, develop and present new ideas and performance practices.
To support and grow an engaged audience in the Bay Area by offering a platform for exchange between creators and performers and the public.
To offer high-quality public programs in conjunction with NEXMAP productions, including master-classes, open rehearsals, public lectures, youth development programs and in-school residencies, which will serve to build skills, inspire individuals, contribute to the community at large and help to raise the profile of San Francisco as an international city supportive of relevant and innovative arts programming.

Vision

NEXMAP grows out of the creative vision of Founder and Artistic Director Linda Bouchard. Bouchard believes that our artistic traditions are rapidely evolving through the integration of electronic and digital tools. NEXMAP's varied programming gives audiences and artists the opportunity to explore the vital connection between artistic mastery and these new developments. It is this persistent, creative interplay and contemporary relevance that led to the founding of NEXMAP.

History

Beginning in Fall 2006, NEXMAP's programming has featured cutting edge work by local Bay Area and international artists in such places as the Recombinant Media Labs (RML) in San Francisco, Centre for New Music and Audio technologies at UC Berkeley (CNMAT) and other performance spaces in the Bay Area. NEXMAP's goal is to present a range of accomplished contemporary artists and innovators in compelling settings, from workshops to concert performances to public forums for dialogue and discussion.
